- Microsoft News – Along with a new version of its Windows operating system, Microsoft is expected to announce a new browser next week. Their new browser’s code-name is “Spartan”, according to Tech News World.
- Virtual Traffic Lights – The average American worker spends almost half an hour commuting each day, but virtual traffic lights could cut that almost in half, stated Tech News World. Based on vehicle-to-vehicle technology mandates expected within the United States, virtual traffic lights will appear not on the street, but on drivers’ windshields as they approach an intersection.
- Facebook – They announced that they’ve begun a new effort to help find missing children by incorporating Amber Alerts into the news feeds of its 185 million U.S. users, said Tech News World.
- Beagle 2 Mars Lander – The 11-year-old mystery of what happened to the UK-sponsored Beagle 2 Mars lander on its trip to the red planet’s surface appeared to be mostly solved Friday with the announcement the craft had been spotted in high-resolution NASA images taken from orbit, according to CNN.
- Portable Blood Test – An Irish company says it has developed a “clinic-in-a-box” that can test for a range of diseases or medical conditions in minutes, from just a single drop of blood, said CNN.
- French Websites Under Attack – The French Defense Ministry and ANSSI, that country’s version of the NSA, confirmed to CNNMoney that they have monitored a large wave of cyberattacks on all sorts of French websites.
- Google Glass Is Not Dead – According to Tech Crunch, “In its current form, Glass is undoubtedly dead, but there’s no reason to believe Google won’t relaunch it with a new version in the coming month — likely around its annual I/O developer conference.” Google Glass is a type of wearable technology with an optical head-mounted display (OHMD).
- Be My Eyes – A new Danish non-profit ‘startup’, has taken a commodity technology, the humble video call, and, by combining it with a community of sighted volunteers, used it as the basis for an iOS app that lets you help a visually-impaired person ‘see’ through their phone’s video camera, said Steve O’Hear on Tech Crunch.com.
- HTC – They are gearing up to launch something new on March 1 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to Tech Crunch. HTC has done a great job of delivering quality devices with the past two HTC One flagship smartphones, including the M7 two years ago and 2014’s M8.
- Robot News – A million-dollar robot suit is available on Amazon in Japan, said John Biggs on TechCrunch.com. The robot is a bit hobbled so it moves about five miles per hour and you can buy the arms separately.
- Tablet Case – If your personal trademark veers towards chic, no nonsense, and leather-clad, we’ve found the perfect case for you. Makr’s $180 leather iPad case is beautiful in its simplicity, advised Wired.com.
- Smart Scale – If you have $150 to buy only one thing, get a connected scale. Recent research has found that weighing in at least once a week is key to keeping hard-earned pounds from creeping back, according to Wired.
